August 2021 Monthly Safety Report

Occupational injury and illness data highlights through July 2021 show us where we need to focus our efforts in the second half of the year.

Our Key Performance Indicators (KPI), the measurable values we use to evaluate our progress toward meeting our Safety objectives, showed improvement in two categories – OSHA recordable injuries and Days Away, Restricted or Transferred (DART) injury events. Other Case Incident Rate (OCIR) injury events increased compared to the same time last year. Here’s a quick look:

  • OSHA recordable injury events decreased 7.1%, from 56 in 2020 to 52 in 2021
  • DART decreased 21.1%, from 38 in 2020 to 30 in 2021
  • OCIR increased 22.2%, from 18 in 2020 to 22 in 2021

And, our year-over-year performance at a glance:

Safety improvement, measured by lagging indicators, takes a full team effort and can be supported by regularly submitting Poka Yokes and Near Miss Reports – focusing on preventing accidents before they happen. Poka Yokes are mistake-proofing activities that prevent errors and incidents from occurring in the workplace. Learn more about these and other leading indicators here.

In July, three Poka Yokes and seven High Potential Near Miss Reports were submitted. Learn more about each of them in the August Monthly Safety Report (available on OSSIE).
