The TSA has extended their requirement deadline for all flyers to present REAL ID-compliant license. The new deadline is October 1, 2021.
Take a look at your driver’s license. Is there a star in the top right corner? If not and you plan to travel next year (for work or for pleasure), you should take action now.
Let’s back up for a minute… what does the star even mean? The star signifies that it’s a REAL ID-compliant license. And, according to the REAL ID Act – which complies with the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that standards are set for travelers – all travelers must have a current REAL ID by October 1, 2021 to get through TSA in all airports for domestic flights. Other acceptable forms of ID include a valid passport or U.S. military ID.
In short, without the proper ID, you won’t be permitted to enter the TSA checkpoint and will not be allowed to fly. We’re encouraging you not to procrastinate. If your ID currently isn’t compliant, don’t wait until the last minute to get your ID updated.
