Winter Roadway Safety

Putting safety first is a good practice all the time – not just at work! Winter weather presents a number of opportunities to make your safety and the safety of your family a priority.

With a few months of winter still ahead of us, it’s worth taking some time to make sure you and your family are prepared for winter weather when it impacts the roadways. Here are some tips:

  • Check your vehicle’s fluids and tire pressures…tires lose pressure in colder weather.
  • Make sure that your tires have plenty of tread. When in doubt, replace the tires on the primary drive axle.
  • If going on a long trip, make sure to take extra windshield washer fluid with you.
  • Make sure your wipers are in good condition. Replace as needed.
  • Pack a snow brush and ice scraper.
  • Consider other supplies you may need – especially, if traveling long distances. (for example: emergency blanket, road flares, jumper cables, protein bars, water, etc.).
