2021 Internship Program: What We Learned

Thirteen college students participated in Olympic Steel’s 2021 Internship Program. Learn their thoughts about the experience and find out what each of them did to contribute to our success.

Our 2021 Internship Program kicked off earlier this year. We welcomed 13 college students to help prepare them for a career in their chosen fields of study.

The interns worked at locations in Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Texas. As part of their internship experience, they each completed at least one special project and reported the details to Rick Marabito, CEO, at a meeting in early August. These projects were specific to their area of study and, in many cases, were projects that would have otherwise been outsourced or assigned to a full-time employee.

Our 2021 interns exceeded all expectations, and it sounds like they gained a lot from their experiences, as well:

  • “I expanded my knowledge of the industry at a high level and was able to have direct contact with leadership, including the CEO, Rick Marabito.”
  • “Getting to know all of my coworkers was my favorite part! I truly feel like these people are a second family.”
  • “I want to thank everyone from the shop floor to the executives I met. I gained more real-world knowledge of this industry in one summer than any of the classes I’ve taken in all of my semesters at a university.”
  • “I really enjoyed the variety of experience I received from working at Olympic Steel.”
  • “I LOVED my supervisors! They were helpful and there to support me when I needed it. From the very beginning, it was clear what my role was and how I could contribute to the team.”
  • “Sending my resume to the Milford division was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
