4Q2020 Safety Challenge Results!

PPE helps us prevent injuries at work and at home.

Benjamin Franklin said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Basically, Ben’s saying that it’s easier to prevent something from happening than to correct it after it has happened. And that’s why we have personal protective equipment (PPE) – to help us prevent injury to ourselves throughout our day.

  • Safety glasses protect our eyes from foreign particles
  • Gloves protect our hands from sharp edges
  • Long sleeves or protective coverings keep our forearms safe from scraps and cuts
  • Steel-toed work shoes keep our feet protected from heavy or sharp objects that could cut through a weaker shoe. And, they keep our feet steady on the ground!

We all use PPE throughout our day, even when we’re not in the workplace. When you wear your seatbelt in the car, when you use a mitt to remove something hot from the oven, when you wear winter hats and gloves while playing in the snow or even when you put on your sunscreen while you’re at the beach. These actions are taken to protect ourselves and our family from harm. We automatically take the extra steps necessary, and it’s just as important to make sure we’re using the proper PPE for the jobs we’re doing at work.

Learn more about your PPE requirements and offer suggestions for ways to improve what is issued by contacting your division Safety contact.
