Bob Dove

Quality Assurance Engineer/Safety Manager, Integrity Stainless, Streetsboro, OH and Latrobe, PA

Built a successful career by learning. Empowers strong teams. Champions our Safety culture.

Bob Dove committed to the industry early, and he’s spent more than 28 years learning new things and building a career as an enthusiastic leader who focuses on the success of the team above all.

It all started in 1992 with Prime Metals. Twenty-one years later, Bob started his career with Integrity Stainless as a Flat Bar Foreman. When slitters were added, he moved to Slitter Supervisor, eventually supervising all equipment on the floor.

As more equipment was added to the facility, Bob wrote a job safety analysis (JSA), standard operating procedure (SOP) and work instruction for each piece of equipment, reinforcing Olympic Steel’s commitment to Safety and strengthening the Safety culture at Integrity Stainless. Although these responsibilities were not part of Bob’s job function as a Supervisor, he jumped at the chance to use his existing skills and pick up some new ones. Eventually, he began developing training materials and implementing quality and safety training for both Integrity Stainless locations in Streetsboro, OH and Latrobe, PA. When a Safety/Quality position opened in Streetsboro, Bob was promoted to his current position as Quality Assurance Engineer/Safety Manager.

It’s in his role as a Safety Manager where Bob believes he’s made a real difference. He’s most proud of creating the Streetsboro Safety Team and the impact they’ve had.

“After spending two months developing the training and tools needed to start the team, we jumped right into scoring the severity level of hazardous risks/behaviors in the plant. Using these methods to assess the risks throughout our plant, we implemented changes and identified risks before they resulted in injury. This team and our efforts were a success,” Bob recounts with pride.

Bob believes the strength of a team yields great results. He credits two teams for helping him most during his time at Olympic Steel. First, the Company-wide Safety Team, comprised of a representative from each location, meets each week to discuss successes and struggles. In sharing this information, best practices are implemented across the Company and lessons learned at one facility are lessons learned by all.

Second, Bob credits the Detroit Division’s Quality Department for building his skills to develop PPAP and APQP as the Streetsboro division entered the automotive industry. He says, “The tools Detroit’s Quality Department gave me, along with their valuable time, was essential in helping me and the Streetsboro Team excel with our customer demands and requirements.”

When asked what advice he’d give to someone joining the Company, Bob said, “There are always opportunities at Olympic Steel. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, be honest in all interactions and be ready to learn from others.”
