June is National Safety Month

We’re all Safety Superheroes! We will celebrate National Safety Month with gifts, a contest, education and more to recognize and celebrate ways to be safe at work and at home.

At Olympic Steel, we put Safety First. Always. This year, we’ve amped up our recognition and celebration of National Safety Month to include giveaways, a Hand Hazard Identification Contest that will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and resources to help you (and your hands) stay safe at home, too!

We’ll share more info and reminders throughout the month, but here’s what you can expect:

  • Week of June 5: Safety Shirt Giveaway!

We’re all Safety Superheroes ready to GO GEMBA! Your Safety Representative/Contact will distribute a shirt for everyone this week. Then, on a date chosen by your division (before June 16), wear your shirt for a group photo. We’ll share the pictures on our social media pages!

  • Week of June 12 and June 19: Hand Hazard Recognition Contest

During these two weeks, we want you to identify workplace hand hazards – as many as you can!

  1. On the card provided (available here in English, Spanish and French), write down a hand hazard in the workplace (one card for each hazard).
  2. Turn in your completed cards to your Safety contact or a member of your Safety Committee by Friday, June 23.
  3. Your division’s Safety Committee will use the submitted hand hazards to create action items to help reduce or eliminate the identified hazards. But wait – there’s more!
  4. The division with the highest number of identified hazards (divided by division’s headcount) will earn $10 per identified hazard for a donation (up to $10,000) to their local Make-A-Wish chapter!
  • Week of June 26: Hand PPE Giveaway

We’ll wrap-up the month with information and a PPE (personal protective equipment) giveaway that will help you keep your hands safe from hazards at work and at home.

We’re looking forward to a full month of Safety education, awareness, Corporate Citizenship and fun! As always, please share your moments with the rest of the Company by sending photos to the Comms Team at CompanyCommunications@olysteel.com.
