Matt Worthington, Production Supervisor, McCullough Industries, Kenton, OH
Team builder. Hands-on, positive leader. Always looking for opportunities to learn and develop.
In February 2015, Matt Worthington began his career at McCullough Industries (MCI) as a Welder. In January 2019, Olympic Steel acquired MCI and within a year, Matt was promoted to Production Lead.
“Matt’s work ethic is second-to-none. He leads by example and participates in every training opportunity available. He has high expectations for his team and does whatever he can to support their success – with a smile and a positive attitude,” says Bob Dove, Operations Manager at McCullough Industries.
Matt says the supervisor training courses offered by the HR Team have helped him be a better leader at the division. “Listening and observing people like Bob Dove and Joe Casey [General Manager at McCullough Industries] has also been beneficial. Their management style and their unwavering support helps me work through any challenges I may face,” Matt explains.
The people Matt works with and the job he does make him happy to come to work each day. He says, “You can be yourself out on the floor – do what you do and get the job done. And working for Joe is pretty fun, too.”
Matt believes he best represents our Teamwork Core Value and looks forward to working with his coworkers each day. “We have good camaraderie and that makes it easy to work together to complete projects,” says Matt.
Matt’s teamwork mentality extends beyond the shop floor. Years ago, when a coworker decided to forego an expensive trip for medical treatment, Matt organized donations to help his coworker pay for the trip. Matt is also one of the first volunteers when McCullough supports local organizations – giving his time and resources to support the community of Kenton, Ohio through McCullough’s Corporate Citizenship efforts.
When asked for his advice to others about how to build a successful career with Olympic Steel, Matt said, “Try to learn as much as possible, keep a clear head on your shoulders and always look for growth opportunities within the Company.”
