McCullough Industries – Kenton, OH: Ron Shoffner

Our Wright® self-dumping hoppers, produced by McCullough Industries, are created with a continuous weld to prevent leaks and drips.

The welders change and throw out the spools of weld wire before the spool is complete. Each discarded spool contains about five pounds of wire. The hopper latch assembly welder, Ron Shoffner, does not need to create a continuous weld for his process. Ron noticed the leftover weld wire and began using it in his process to reduce waste and to assure 100% of the material was being utilized. This one adjustment saves the McCullough Industries over $7,000 annually.

Lesson Learned: Sometimes a small change can have a greater, long-term impact on how we operate which compounds over time and can have other benefits – like protecting our environment by reducing waste.
