National Volunteer Week: A Celebration of Giving Back
April 20-April 26 is National Volunteer Week – a time to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers across the country whose efforts bring people together and create positive change.
National Volunteer Week is a special time to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers across the country. It’s an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the selfless contributions of individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making a difference in their communities. Whether they’re helping out at local shelters, organizing community events, or mentoring young people, volunteers are the heart and soul of countless initiatives that bring people together and create positive change.
Volunteering in our local communities is an important part of Olympic Steel’s culture and our Corporate Citizenship Core Value, actively contributing to the communities where we live and work. In 2024, we organized over 350 hours of volunteer time to support Habitat for Humanity, Outreach Indiana, Simply Hygiene, the Salvation Army and the Houston Food Bank.
WHAT IS NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK?
National Volunteer Week started in 1974 as a way to recognize the impact of volunteerism in the United States. Over the years, it’s grown into a nationwide celebration of giving back, with organizations, nonprofits, and community groups hosting events and campaigns to honor those who step up to help others.
GETTING INVOLVED
Want to get involved during National Volunteer Week? Here are some ideas:
