O365 app feature – PowerPoint

This O365 app is most like its desktop counterpart, and a great app to begin using the O365 applications for the web.

O365 is a cloud-based set of Microsoft applications available to you from any device with a web browser and an internet connection.

The programs are accessible to users with a personal O365 login or through OSSIE by selecting the waffle icon (9 small squares that look like a waffle) in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

PowerPoint for the web offers the ability to create, edit and share presentations using your web browser rather than a downloaded version of Microsoft Office. When compared to Word and Excel for the web, PowerPoint for the web has fewer limitations. In fact, there are only three – and they’re easy to work-around:

  • Limitation: PowerPoint for the web does not allow you to embed video, audio and data from other Office apps
  • Work-around: Embed videos from an outside source, like YouTube

  • Limitation: Can’t build advanced animations
  • Work-around: Use basic animations

  • Limitation: Only 18 fonts are available
  • Work-around: Simply use one of the standard 18 fonts (HINT: Olympic Steel’s “official” brand font for all communication is Arial!)

Since there are so few differences between the desktop version of PowerPoint and PowerPoint for the web, it’s a great app to get started using online. Visit OSSIE, click the waffle to give it a try today!
