An employee operating an overhead crane got his hand stuck in a pinch point while trying to hold open the safety latch. The incident resulted in an OSHA recordable event. Mike Estill, Maintenance Lead, designed a device that will keep hands away from the latch and out of the pinch point. Gary Cramer, Production Estimator, programmed the burn tables to cut the parts in-house. Their ingenuity eliminated the pinch point at no cost to Olympic Steel and is an after-market solution that can be applied to any similar crane, without affecting the warranties or service plans associated with the equipment.
