When potential contact with the internal auger on the new machine table posed a potential safety hazard, Mike Estill, Maintenance Lead, and Jay McCarty, Plant Manager, designed and installed the safe-guard for exit chute.
Mike and Jay identified and eliminated a potential hazard before anyone was injured. This safety improvement also initiated a discussion and review of all machining centers at the facility.
Lesson Learned: Just because something’s new doesn’t mean it’s without flaws. It’s always a good idea to review equipment and processes to determine if there are any unidentified hazards.
