A change leader. His team’s “go to” guy. Believes any job worth doing is worth doing well.

Elkin “Rudy” Rudasill began his career at McCullough Industries in 1995 as a welder. After more than 25 years, it can be easy to fall into comfortable habits and avoid doing things differently. Instead, Rudy has embraced opportunities to learn more and firmly establish himself as a change leader for his location.

In 2019, McCullough Industries joined the Olympic Steel family, and Rudy has been instrumental in helping integrate the McCullough team – driving new ideas and acting as a role model and early adopter for new processes, programs and when it comes to Safety.

“Since joining Olympic Steel, we’ve made some important changes required of any small, privately held company joining a larger, public organization. Rudy has helped usher in the changes, introduce new best practices and stepped up as a respected leader at our facility – especially when it comes to keeping people safe,” said Joe Casey, General Manager at McCullough Industries. “He’s a self-starter. He just sees when something needs to be done and does it. He’s really reliable, and I lean on Rudy a lot to help lead our team.”

Over the years, Rudy has learned as much as he could – every machine, every process, every product. When lasers were first installed, he jumped at the opportunity to travel to Chicago for education on how to program and operate the lasers. To this day, Rudy is the “go to guy” when it comes to operating and troubleshooting the lasers – even coming in on the weekends and off-hours to keep things running when issues arise with the equipment.

Exploring ways to learn something new and contribute are what make Rudy happy to come to work each day – and what make him especially effective in his role as Production Supervisor.

From McCullough’s humble beginning as a small shop with well-used machines to the addition of square footage and new equipment, Rudy is proud to be part of the continued growth and is taking an active role in shaping McCullough’s future.

Rudy’s advice to his teammates and others looking to build a strong career: “Show up for work and do more than is expected, because anything worth doing is worth doing really, really well.”
