Ryan Maksimik

Inventory Control Manager, Schaumburg, IL

Leads by example. Credits our Company’s culture for his professional growth. Looks forward to more opportunities to make an impact.

Seven years ago, Ryan Maksimik had no prior experience in the metals industry, but that didn’t stop him from beginning a career with Olympic Steel as an Inside Sales Representative for the Schaumburg, IL division. He quickly demonstrated his ability to collaborate or work well with customers and his strong desire to continuously learn more. After three years in the sales department, Ryan moved into the purchasing department as a Purchasing Specialist/Buyer. This year, he was promoted to Inventory Control Manager for the Schaumburg, IL and Gary, IN divisions.

“Ryan is committed to building a career at Olympic Steel,” says Damon Wos, General Manager for the Schaumburg, IL and Gary, IN divisions. “He continues to increase his responsibilities and pushes himself to help make Olympic Steel stronger.”

“I’m passionate about my work, and I’m proud to be recognized for my contributions that have helped grow our Specialty Metals business segment,” says Ryan.

This kind of personal and professional growth has been accomplished in part by the support Ryan has received from mentors and leaders in the division.

“It’s an open-door policy here. There are people from different backgrounds, with different experiences, who are always willing to help, teach and explain as much as they can.” Ryan credits this culture for his growth. “People who have been in the business for over 30 years and some who have just started – I can always find the answer within the walls of Olympic Steel.”

Ryan also participates in local MSCI networking events and is an active member of his division’s Make-A-Wish planning committee. “Meeting people, learning about the industry and getting people together to benefit others just makes you feel good,” Ryan says.

He comes to work each day to accomplish his goals and set a good example for others. “There’s always something to do at work – it never gets old,” he says. “Each day is an opportunity to learn new things and expand my knowledge.”

With seven years of experience to reference, Ryan believes there’s much more ahead – more responsibility and more opportunities to have an impact on the Company. He’s determined and driven to exceed all expectations and offers this advice for others who’d like to do the same: “Always bring a positive mindset. Come to work ready to learn and do the best that you can. Set a good example for others and lead the way.”
