Ryan Nivolo

Production Supervisor, Olympic Steel, Milford, CT

Relentlessly dedicated to learning more. Grateful for his co-workers' expertise. Driven to improve every day.

Ryan Nivolo graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2016 with a degree in psychology. Soon after graduation, although already working full-time, he applied for a Shipping Associate position at Olympic Steel’s Milford, CT division. He accepted that job and worked in the shipping department for about 6 months before moving into the quality department. There, he worked as a Quality Assurance Associate for three years, then as a Production Planning Associate in the scheduling department before accepting his current position as Production Supervisor in August 2022.

Ryan is proud of his work history and varied experience at Olympic Steel. He says, “I keep progressing and learning as much as I can, pulling something from every department I’ve learned from so far and using it to make me better in my current role.”

Bill Maurer, General Manager for the Milford division, says, “Ryan is committed to continuous improvement and is always willing to learn more about the Company and our processes. He is an eager, hardworking contributor to the division’s overall success.”

Ryan credits the long-term employees at his division for much of his success. He says, “We have a great support system of people who have extensive knowledge of the industry and our processes. I absorb as much as I can from each of them every day to help me get better.”

Facing something new each day keeps things interesting and exciting. He explains, “It’s never the same day twice. I deal with a new issue every day and I tackle those challenges with the help of the team. Teamwork makes the dream work! I could not do my job without working with the office and the shop.”

Ryan’s previous experience in warehouse and office roles gives him a well-rounded perspective of how things run and what each department needs to do to help work through the different challenges.

When asked for his advice to others who would like to build a great career at Olympic Steel, he says this: “I came into the steel business with no previous experience, but now I know a lot about shipping, scheduling, quality and operations. Be open to new opportunities within the Company and never stop learning.”
