Emergencies Happen. Are You Prepared?

We hope for the best and plan for the worst. Learn what you can do now to avoid being unprepared in the future.

From fires and dangerous weather to workplace violence, emergencies can occur anytime and anywhere. Here are some quick tips to help you be prepared in case you find yourself in an emergency.

Scheduling drills to assess your preparedness in emergency situations could save lives. Treat every drill as though it is an actual event.

Drill Do’s

  • Help keep evacuation routes clear, year round
  • Evacuate to a designated area as quickly as possible
  • Alert management if any physical issues hinder getting to safety
  • Exercise caution after given an official “all clear”
  • Give feedback after a drill (good and bad) to improve the process

Drill Don’ts

  • Don’t assume a drill is a “false alarm”
  • Don’t go back to your workstation for personal items
  • Don’t head for the main exit instead of your closest emergency exit
  • Don’t socialize during drills – remain quiet and calm; await further instructions
  • Don’t use an elevator – take the stairs
