Lean Six Sigma Program has supported the creation and implementation of many projects since 2020, using the premise that “work can be better than it was yesterday” and an approach that includes three key components – Observation, Experimentation and Project Management.

Return on Investment
The Central Region, in less than a year, has seen the following benefits from LSSGB projects from October 2022 through October 2023.
- Over $280,000 cost savings
- An $800,000 annual risk reduction (by retaining a customer and eliminating the need to purchase inappropriate equipment)
- Identified key planning errors in SEMS
- Reduced maintenance costs on mechanical beveler
- Reduced temper mill downtime
- Decreased setup time by 50%
- Reduced customer claims related to truck loading errors by 97%
- Reduced onboarding costs and increased retention rates with improved training procedures
- Reduced time to run reports by 40%, saving almost 3 work hours each week

The next Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training is tentatively scheduled for early 2024 and the Operational Excellence team is looking for curious and structured individuals who want to make work better than it was yesterday! It will consume about 25% of your time (in addition to your ‘day job’) for about four months. Participation in the training must be approved by your supervisor and your enrollment is subject to General Manager recommendation/approval.
