Make Something Great Happen

The Fe Awards recognize employees who go “above and beyond.”

Roy Berlin’s father started working in the steel industry when Roy was 4 years old, so he basically has no memory of a time when steel wasn’t a part of his life. When his father Mel retired from Berlin Metals 32 years ago, Roy followed in his father’s footsteps and took the reins.

Roy said, “It has been my great privilege and good fortune to work with many of you for a lot of years.” He went on to say that, although bittersweet, the time has come for him to retire and to let the next generation of leaders and managers take this company to even greater heights.

Many employees gathered to celebrate Roy’s retirement on-site at Berlin earlier this year. It was a great time to come together, reminisce and wish him well. Roy’s future plans include traveling to interesting places, spending some quality time with his granddaughter and relaxing on his boat on Lake Michigan.

Some parting wisdom offered up by Roy: “Always try to make tomorrow better than today, even if by only a little bit.”

Thank you, Roy, for your hard work and dedication through the years. Happy retirement!
