Microsoft Teams: Connecting People, Conversations and Content

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based workspace that helps teams work more effectively from near or far.

Nearly one year ago, we introduced the O365 newsfeed feature to teach you a little something about each of the frequently used applications available for desktop and mobile users.

Since then, we’ve highlighted common applications, like Word, Excel and Outlook, and applications that are used less often, like OneNote and SharePoint, to give you a better understanding of what’s available to you, how the desktop applications differ from the mobile applications and why you may want to give each version a try.

To wrap this series, we’re featuring the ultimate collaboration tool known as Microsoft Teams. It’s not just a way to keep groups of people connected when they’re separated by distance, it’s a chat-based workspace that brings together people, conversations and content so that teams work more effectively from near or far. You see content and chat history anytime in team chat or small group private chat and have quick access to shared files and other content in the app.

Microsoft shares these five reasons why you should start using Microsoft Teams today:

  1. It’s more than just chat. You can share files, then chat or video call to discuss the file. Schedule a meeting without leaving the chat, or seamlessly integrate with OneNote and Office apps without switching between them during your conversation.
  2. Tackle meeting details all in one place (in Meetings). Access all aspects of a meeting – agenda, action items and handouts. Following the meeting, a recording of the meeting is available in the same tab, so if you missed the meeting, you don’t need to look for it.
  3. Fewer emails. No more filling up your inbox with conversational replies! In Microsoft Teams, conversations are structural. And if someone needs to send a file or ask a quick question – it’s all available in the chat.
  4. Improved collaboration and communications. Microsoft integrates well with Office applications, so you don’t need to switch apps to collaborate on a document. Create documents in Teams, immediately share it with coworkers and co-author instantly. Add comments and to-dos and chat with collaborators to discuss the document in real time.
  5. Stay connected, anytime, anywhere. Microsoft Teams is portable with the mobile app! You can access all your apps and documents with a single login. Plus, easily respond to chats or join meetings with a click.
