New Year’s Resolutions – It’s Not Just About Doing Better for Yourself

What Olympic Steel divisions have done to help others in 2020, and how you can keep it going in 2021.

There is little as rewarding as doing something for someone else with no expectation for something in return.

Giving for giving’s sake. Paying it forward. Corporate Citizenship. Whatever you call it and whether it’s your time and talent, money or donating an item to a person or organization in need, it’s all part of leading a well-rounded life.

Many of us start the new year with aspirations to get fit, eat right or achieve a goal – something to make the new year better than the year before. As you plan ways to improve your own life in 2021, think about creating a resolution to find a way to improve the lives of others. Organizations like the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, local food banks and Volunteers of America need more support than ever.

Luckily, Corporate Citizenship Committees at each division can make it easy for you to help others. Here are some of the ways divisions across the Company supported their communities in 2020 and have raised over $30,000 (and still counting) for our annual Working for Wishes campaign:

  • Hosted a weekly Bake Sale to support the Make-A-Wish® Foundation and Olympic Steel’s Working for Wishes campaign – all while observing COVID health and safety guidelines, such as having items individually wrapped, using plastic gloves and limiting bake sale access in the break room to 5 masked employees at a time
  • Held a canned food drive to support Hardin County’s Local Food Bank
