Olympic Steel – Chambersburg, PA Team: Mark Watson and Jeremy Miller

Mark Watson, Machine Operator, worked at the Mount Sterling, KY division for a couple weeks to help catch-up on backorders.

While Mark was there, he identified ways to improve machining operations. Upon his return to the Chambersburg division, Mark met with Jeremy Miller, Operational Excellence/Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, to review his suggestions. Jeremy Miller visited the Mount Sterling team to discuss and implement the changes. Mark and Jeremy continued to collaborate while the changes were implemented. The suggestions resulted in increased productivity, and ultimately improved on-time delivery for the customer.

Lesson Learned: When you identify ways to make improvements in another department or another division – don’t hesitate to initiate the conversation. Sharing best practices at our own divisions and across the Company is what will take the entire team to the next level.
