Central Region divisions work together to recognize employees who share improvement ideas and who go the extra mile every day.
Olympic Steel’s Central Region is comprised of three divisions, including Bettendorf, IA; Minneapolis, MN (Coil) and Minneapolis, MN (Plate). These divisions work together, offering ways to support each other in order to work efficiently and effectively all year long. One of the ways this region supports each other is through recognition programs like MN-Plate’s EDIT Program and Bettendorf’s Monthly Hero Program.
Recognizing Great Ideas
In November 2019, the Minneapolis Plate Division launched a program called Employee Driven Improvement Team, or EDIT. This program recognizes employees who submit their ideas to resolve issues at the division.
The EDIT Program encourages all departments to share ideas that ultimately will help them work safer, smarter and together. It’s about generating improvement ideas from the people who are working where the improvements need to be made. After nearly one year, the program implemented 55 of 62 ideas to improve productivity, safety or other initiatives.
Recognizing Exceptional Effort
The Iowa Monthly Hero Program recognizes employees who go the extra mile every day and make an impact on the division’s success. Nominations are submitted by coworkers and managers, and evaluated based on the employee’s ability to support our Company’s Core Values and the division’s performance objectives. Nominations can also include activities unrelated to work like volunteering, education and personal milestones.
In 2020, nineteen employees were nominated and recognized for going above and beyond at work and in the community.
Announcing Olympic Steel Champions
Last year, the Region combined these recognition programs into one and all divisions now participate mutually. The new and improved program, called Olympic Steel Champions, recognizes employees across its three divisions and encourages sharing ideas and talents to make Olympic Steel a great place to work.
