What Olympic Steel is doing to recruit the most qualified, talented and diverse candidates – and what you can do to help.
Statistics show that businesses with a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace have better productivity and profitability. Many organizations are looking to boost the diversity of their workforces and benefit from a wide range of backgrounds, cultural perspectives, knowledge, experience and viewpoints. Olympic Steel is one of them.
So, why are we focused on diversity?
We want our teams to reflect the communities where we live and work – infusing our workplace with the fresh perspectives, skills and experiences that support our growth. When we provide employees with the opportunity to collaborate and develop new ideas with people who approach things differently and think differently, we’re building a culture that supports the growth of ideas and experiences, and develops leaders who value, support and celebrate different thoughts and perspectives.
We’re shifting our culture. And, an immediate way we can understand the value and need for that shift is in how we’re addressing the current hiring challenges – a challenge you may be feeling locally, if your team is short-handed. Here’s what we’re doing now to generate a larger and more diverse candidate pool of potential employees:
Being down a team member (or more) can make it tougher to get the work done. But, you can help! Referring candidates for open positions at your location is one of the best ways to staff our facilities. Generally speaking, candidates referred by an existing employee are people who the employee trusts will do a good job. Knowing this, we encourage referrals by paying a Referral Bonus to the referring employee when the hired candidate completes their first 90 days of employment.
For more information about the referral bonus, reach out to your Regional Human Resources Manager or the HR Help Desk at 216.242.2886 (internal extension 19780) or
