William Campos, Production Lead, Olympic Steel, Cleveland, OH
Steadfast mentor and coach. Leads with a team-first, positive attitude. Loves his job and the Company.
William Campos started working as a Laser Helper at Olympic Steel’s Cleveland, OH location in 2006. When the opportunity arose, he moved to third shift for a Laser Operator position before becoming the second shift Production Lead, his current role.
George Himler, Operations Manager for the Cleveland division, says, “William is very thorough and dedicated. He’s great at training and people development. He gets along with everyone, is levelheaded and even keeled. He’s respectful to everyone and gives each person the same amount of respect, regardless of role, tenure or title. He truly loves this place and gives 100% every day.”
“I do love this place – everyone is kind, and I love my job,” William responds. He is proud of the progress he’s made since he first started at Olympic Steel. “I learned a lot from day one – as a Laser Helper to Laser Operator. And now, as Production Lead, I get to teach others and coach them to be successful and contribute to the Company.”
William credits the coaching he received from George as something that helped him the most during his career. “He’s a positive man who encourages me and taught me how to manage other people, especially those from different backgrounds.” He adds that the Sol Siegal Scholarship was a great help for his daughter who received it for all four years of college.
The Core Value William believes he represents best is Safety, because “it’s very important for people to not get hurt. Safety is most important in every company, but Olympic Steel really encourages us and gives us the tools to stay safe.”
“Everybody’s like a family here,” William says. When asked what makes him happy to come to work, he continues, “We spend a lot of our life at work. You should like what you do and be helpful to others. Before I came to Olympic Steel, I worked for a plastics company. I had to figure everything out on my own with little help. Since then, it’s been important for me to let others know that they aren’t working alone. I’m here to support them, teach them and guide them.”
It's important to William to create a family atmosphere at the Cleveland division. “I want everyone to feel welcome, happy and comfortable while they’re at work,” he says.
George adds, “Will is thorough with every job, so he knows what needs to get done. He is completely involved and does everything he can possibly do to help others out. He’s a passionate leader who makes sure the tough issues are handled swiftly, so they affect as few people as possible.”
When asked for his advice to others on how to build a successful career at Olympic Steel, William’s answer was short and sweet: “Be a good listener and communicate well.”
