Bob Budner

Production Lead, Olympic Steel, Cleveland, OH

Man of few words. Proud to be part of Olympic Steel’s growth. Dedicated to his family, his career and the Company.

They say actions speak louder than words. For Bob Budner, that’s definitely the case.

Thirty-four years ago, Bob Budner began his career at Olympic Steel’s Cleveland, OH division. He started as a Shop Helper, then worked on Line 1 as a Stacker Operator. After nearly two decades in that position, Bob moved into the Production Lead role in Cleveland’s 5080 building.

Bob is proud to be part of Olympic Steel’s growth over the past 34 years. “He’s seen it all and somehow always manages to stay calm amid any situation,” says Kevin Miller, General Manager for Olympic Steel’s Cleveland, OH division. “Bob’s focus on the team and willingness to help is an important part of our success.”

That success extends beyond the Cleveland, OH location. Bob is part of the training team that’s traveled to Berlin Metals and Bettendorf, IA to help their shop with the installation and upgrade to SEMS.

On any given day, you’ll find Bob managing the production team at Cleveland and looking for ways work safely and improve processes. He says consistently showing up for work each day and remaining dedicated to his job and the Company are his greatest professional contributions.

“I’ve been married for 32 years. I have two daughters, a son, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren. All three of my children have graduated from college. Olympic Steel has given me the job security needed to raise and provide for my family,” says Bob.

Bob’s desire to provide for his family fuels his commitment to his job. He’s happy to do his best work for an employer who gives their best in return. And, although he’s not ready to use it, he’s looking forward to reaping the rewards of the 401(k) program to maintain his lifestyle after his working days are over.

When asked for his advice to others who want to build a long-term career at Olympic Steel, Bob said, “Be dedicated to the Company. Show them that you’re going to be here for a long time, and they’ll put the effort in to build your career and keep you going.”
