Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection is key and this month is dedicated to promoting awareness, support and resources for those affected.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual campaign is dedicated to increasing awareness about breast cancer, promoting early detection, and raising funds for research and support services. This month serves is an opportunity to educate people about the disease, support those affected, and work towards finding a cure.

  • Education and Prevention: By increasing awareness, we help individuals understand the importance of regular screenings, self-examinations, and understanding their family history. Most health insurance plans cover mammograms 100% as part of a preventive care plan. Olympic Steel’s UHC medical plan is one of them. Check your coverage and schedule your mammogram, if necessary.
  • Support: Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Health Advocate provides resources for employees, including emotional and practical support to patients and their families who are affected by any type of cancer. Find more information at HealthAdvocate.com.
  • Community Engagement: The month encourages community events and initiatives that bring people together to support the cause and foster solidarity. Two of the most popular national events are the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event.
