Meet Metal-Fab!

Metal-Fab, based in Wichita, Kansas, adds commercial and residential venting solutions and industrial air cleaning equipment to our manufactured metal products.

On January 3, we welcomed the Metal-Fab team to Olympic Steel, adding to our capabilities and expanding our portfolio of metal-intensive products. This is our second-largest acquisition in the Company’s history and sixth acquisition in the past five years.

PRODUCTS

Metal-Fab manufactures venting and filtration products – constructed largely of coated carbon and stainless steel – for residential, commercial and industrial applications from two fabrication and warehousing facilities in Wichita, Kansas.

Since 1958, Metal-Fab has prided itself on its “secret sauce – building quality products and shipping them faster than anyone in the industry” – according to Mark Ohm, President.

To add to its “cool factor,” Metal-Fab has provided commercial venting products for stadiums of many professional sports teams – including the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL, the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA, and the Texas Rangers in the MLB.

PARALLELS

The history of Metal-Fab mirrors Olympic Steel’s in many ways. They both began as family-owned companies in the 1950s. Olympic Steel was founded in 1954 and Metal-Fab in 1958. Generations of the founding families of Dwayne Shannon at Metal-Fab and Sol and Sam Siegal at Olympic Steel have continued the legacy.

The current senior leaders of both organizations began their careers in finance in the 1990s and have seen many periods of changes and growth. Mark Ohm began his journey as Vice President of Finance in 1996, becoming Metal-Fab’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2015. And, our very own CEO, Rick Marabito, joined Olympic Steel in 1994, serving as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2000 to 2018 and CEO since 2019.

OUTLOOK

The business will continue to operate as Metal-Fab, an Olympic Steel Company, led by Mark and his knowledgeable leadership team of 10 – together, drawing on 222 years of combined experience. Metal-Fab’s manufacturing expertise in the residential and commercial ventilation industry will complement Olympic Steel’s products and increase our geographic reach.
